Dubliner Mick Fitzgerald funded his debut album with his earnings as an extra and bit-actor on such films as Intermission and How Harry Became A Tree, as well as what he describes as 'a nice win' on a scratch-card. His rough-edged voice and gutar playing are pleasant if unexceptional, but as a songwriter he's definitely onto a winner. References to his native city crowd the hummable originals that make up Light Sleeper, from a missed meeting with a girl-friedn at the gates of Trinity to an old man studying the form in a capel street bar. by Sarah McQuaid |
